The Swirl Round Rug, designed by Univers Uchronia and produced by cc-tapis, is a sculptural textile piece that transforms the traditional rug into a textural, voluminous landscape, a surface made for living, lounging, and being.
Handcrafted by skilled artisans using crochet and advanced knotting techniques, the design begins with experimental woolen yarn studies that were translated from small maquettes into full-scale, large-diameter rugs. The result is a richly textured, hand-crocheted wool surface that evokes organic movement and visual depth through layered forms and graduated colour shifts.
Univers Uchronia approaches the Swirl design as architects rather than illustrators. Rather than simply projecting a pattern onto a flat field, the studio emphasises the three-dimensional construction of the rug, treating it as a landscape that invites touch and presence.
The round format makes the Swirl Rug ideal for defining living rooms, bedrooms, lounges, and intimate seating areas, where it introduces warmth, texture, and a distinctive contemporary voice.
