INTERNI and Foster+Partners together for the Dolunay Villa

Coastal beauty

Located in the province of Muğla (Turkey) along the coast of the Aegean Sea, Dolunay Villa is much more than a simple private residential space. This incredible villa appears to be nothing less than a sculpture perfectly nestled into the lush setting surrounding it. Every point in the house offers a spectacular view of the sea all the while being embraced by brisk coastal breezes and a blazing summer sun. Designed by Studio Foster + Partners, Dolunay Villa features an impressive wooden roof that is lightened by a design that immediately brings to mind the waves of the sea; this stylistic choice allows it to blend in and harmonize with its context, despite its considerable size. An enormous amount of work was also done in selecting the colours and materials that comprise it. Everything that was designed for the villa takes inspiration from the surrounding environment. Natural colours, stone and bronze are the materials we find everywhere and which recall the rocks on the cliffs and the sandy beaches on the shoreline it faces. Oak wood and leather distinguish the majority of the furnishings that have been inserted and create an elegant and relaxed atmosphere. INTERNI, in this majestic project, had the honour and capability to support Studio Foster + Partners in choosing the entire provision of furnishings and all the materials used to upholster and cover, relying on an invaluable collaboration with Architect Massimo Castagna. Owing to many years of experience in the field, our team of professionals threw itself into this important project with its usual professionalism and skills, embellishing a project which was already one of a kind from the beginning.

Accessing paradise

Arriving from the main road and passing through the access gate, you find yourself facing the solemn entrance featuring a wooden gateway which opens and closes automatically. Once inside, the sea, immense and wild, opens up before your eyes, the perfect backdrop for the endless floor-to-ceiling windows that compose the villa’s facade. A few metres from the entrance, an exquisite stone staircase materializes before you, leading to the main floor located on a lower level: an enormous open-space that rightly takes on the role of the heart of the house.

A seaview open-space

Once you descend the stairs you find yourself enveloped by the living room, where the solemnity of this design project is immediately perceived. An enormous beige carpet serves as a base for the parlour area and the extensive living area. The parlour area, composed of a refined Joint Dining Table by Exteta in hand-burnished bronze and Feel-Good armchairs by Flexform, reveals its incomparable elegance whereas the relaxation area is dominated by a comfortable Let It Be fabric sofa by Poltrona Frau facing two Aston armchairs by Minotti flanked by yet two other armchairs, in this case, the Assaya model by Poltrona Frau. Between the sofa and armchairs, instead, there is a composition of coffee tables in varying heights with a natural stone top and burnished metal structure. Being an area used for resting, the furnishings bestow the environment with the idea of extreme comfort, both visual and practical, without ever abandoning the elegance that distinguishes their made in Italy design. A harmonious living room with natural nuances which blend perfectly with the choice of materials and the surroundings.

Ultra-stylish dining room

While it might seem an understatement to define it as such, immediately after the living room, we find the dining room. An enormous space where dinners with countless guests may be held, given the considerable dimensions of the marvellous Oxymoron Table by Henge, a table almost four metres in length, custom-made, featuring an exquisite Forest Fusion solid wood top and a structure of brass, hand-burnished according to traditional techniques. A veritable masterpiece of design featuring the signature of Architect Massimo Castagna where craftsmanship and rare materials ally to create a true gem. To accompany them, iconic products by the Ceccotti company were chosen: Teresa chairs; a timeless classic perfect for any type of setting. The slender and elegant handcrafted structure is made of American walnut while the upholstery is 100% cotton. Above the table, a lamp with blown glass spheres and a brass structure that seem to float in mid-air steals the scene. To separate the dining area from the immense open space serving as a living room, a cabinet and an imposing bookcase with a unique design by Foster + Partners were created exclusively for INTERNI by Henge. The bookcase was completely customised to take advantage of the double height of the space. As with the cabinet, it features a priceless structure in hand-burnished brass whereas the shelves and containers are made of solid wood.

Outdoors unlimited

The marvellous outdoor area surrounding the Dolunay Villa certainly cannot go unnoticed. The spectacular infinity pool covering the entire width of the house appears almost as an extension of the sea in the background and serves as a mirror for magnificent summer sunsets. Around it there are several relaxation areas almost entirely decorated with Exteta furnishings, extreme luxury for outdoor areas. One cannot help but notice the lovely composition of Caprera sofas, with wooden structure and seat in fabric, sophisticated Vieste armchairs, with a nubuck seat and solid wooden structure. Here and there we find Stone Round coffee tables in Italian Bardiglio marble which embellish what is already a prestigious garden. And sun loungers could never go missing, also from Exteta, consisting of a solid mahogany base and padded fabric mattresses for enjoying long summer days on the Turkish coast. Architect Massimo Castagna, Art Director of many top-level brands including EXTETA, stated that the outdoor products used were conceived and developed specifically for this important project in collaboration with INTERNI and only later did he decide to construct the 10th Collection by EXTETA around it.
