Cino Zucchi for the Italian Pavilion 2014

Cino Zucchi will be the curator of the Italian pavilion of the 14th International Architecture Exhibition


The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism has appointed the architect Cino Zucchi as curator of the Italian Pavilion of the 14th International Architecture Exhibition, which will be held in Venice in 2014.
Professor at the Politecnico di Milano and Visiting Professor in Housing and Urbanization at the Harvard GSD, Cino Zucchi is an architect and urban designer with a particular emphasis about the relationship between innovation and interpretation of the context.
Among his best-known installation there are the Copycat at the XIII Biennale of Architecture 2012, the expansion of the National Automobile Museum in Turin, the plan for Keski Pasila in Helsinki and the reform of the ex-Junghans in Venice.


He was born in Milan in 1955, achieved the Bachelor of Science in Art and Design at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Mass) in 1978 and a degree in Architecture in 1979 at the Polytechnic of Milan, where he is Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the PhD and professor of Architecture and Urban Design. He was John T. Dunlop Visiting Professor in Housing and Urbanization at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard in the spring of 2013, and has participated, as a lecturer, at numerous seminars about design and urban theory at Syracuse University in Florence, ETH Zurich and the University Politécnica of Madrid. He is regularly invited to lecture and participate in juries of competitions of architecture and design, both in Italy and abroad.
He participated in the organization and design of the XV, XVI, XVIII and XIX Milan Triennale. His work has been exhibited at the 6 th, 8 th, 12 th and 13 th Venice Biennale, where the installation Copycat Empathy and Envy as Form-makers received the Jury Special Mention (2012).

Together with the studio Cino Zucchi Architetti he has designed and built many public buildings over the years, residential and commercial, a series of public space projects, master plans for areas of agricultural, industrial and historic places and he has participated in numerous free competitions and in national and international calls.
Among the more recent works of the Study there are the master plan for the area of ​​Keski Pasila in Helsinki, residential buildings and offices in the former Alfa Romeo in Milan, the office building of Group M in Assago (Milan) , the Salewa Headquarters in Bolzano, the residential complex in Milan, Parma, Ravenna and Bologna, the new headquarters Lavazza and the renovation and expansion of the National Automobile Museum in Turin, who earned the award Inarch / Reeds 2011.

Also the project for the abandoned area of the ex-Junghans factory on the Giudecca (Venice) was critically acclaimed and it has received numerous national and international awards including: the reference to ‘European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Fundaciò Award – Barcelona in 2001, the gold Medal for Italian Architecture 1995-2003 and 2004-2006 in Brick Award 2004 and the Piranesi Award 2001, the Prize of Architecture « City of Venice ‘in 2005 and’ Ecola Award 2008 in the category » Black Bread Architecture « .
