Piero Fornasetti 100 years of madness practice

From 13th November 2013 to 9th February 2014


Triennale Design Museum on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Piero Fornasetti presents the first major exhibition in Italy dedicated to him , curated by Barnaba Fornasetti .

Triennale Design Museum has decided to pay tribute to this figure in order to highlight the importance and replace it properly in the critical and theoretical debate about the ornament as a structural element for the project.

Painter , printer, designer , collector, fashion designer , fine craftsman , decorator, gallery owner and designer of exhibitions. Fornasetti was an extremely rich and complex personality . He designed and built approximately 13,000 objects and decorations: an universe making in equal measure by rigorous design , arts and crafts as unbridled imagination , invention and surrealist poetry.

The exhibition is divided into sections ranging from the beginnings to the twentieth century pictorial neighbors to the printing works of artist’s books , in close collaboration with Gio Ponti in the ’50s and ’60s to the ’70s and harder until 1988 , the year of his death. A long period marked for the most part by the prevailing rationalist dogma of the functionality in architecture and design that has made him a marginal figure without extinguish the volcanic creativity .

The exhibition consists of more than 700 pieces , for the most part by the extraordinary Archive curated by Barnaba Fornasetti, continues to this day the business started by his father.
