The Omote Fuyu Rug, designed by Mae Engelgeer for cc-tapis, reinterprets the traditional Japanese tatami mat through a contemporary design approach that highlights balance, texture, and material research. Developed in close collaboration with cc-tapis artisans, the rug reflects a minimalist aesthetic inspired by Japanese living spaces.
Produced using a refined handloom weaving technique, the rug features natural yarns woven around a soft and insulating felt core, recreating the characteristic suppleness, warmth, and comfort of tatami flooring. The yarns are dyed in Mae Engelgeer’s signature tonal shades, generating subtle chromatic transitions and a calm, architectural visual rhythm.
Blending traditional inspiration with modern textile craftsmanship, the Omote Fuyu Rug is ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and lounge areas, where it introduces texture, comfort, and understated contemporary elegance.
