Poltrona Frau — Dezza colour makeover
Colour makeover for a Gio Ponti classic
Almost fifty years after its launch Poltrona Frau presents the Dezza in new shades.
In October 2013 were presented three new finishes for the Dezza armchair: the open-pore varnished ash wood structure is now also available in Verde Ponti , Azzurro Ponti and solid Canaletto walnut, which join the black and white versions already in the collection.
Ponti blue and Ponti green are inspired, respectively, by the colours used in Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento and Hotel Parco dei Principi in Rome, two pieces of architecture that epitomise the sober and innovative style of the design Maestro.
The Canaletto Walnut finish, meanwhile, is a nod to a material often used by Gio Ponti throughout his career and therefore in line with his aesthetic approach. It was Ponti himself who sketched out the project for Poltrona Frau in 1965. The Dezza possesses some of the most distinctive design elements of his work: the triangular-section tapered leg and the highly innovative modularity.Originally it was not merely an armchair but a series of four finished components to be assembled at a later stage, as and when requested. It is named after the address of the house he designed for himself in Via Dezza, Milan.
The Dezza armchair has backrests of three different heights. The 12 armchair has very slender armrests that make it possible to combine two or more armchairs while the 48 armchair comes with an eiderdown headrest incorporated in the backrest. The range is completed by the two-seater 24 sofa. The new finishes are available for the 24 armchair and sofa and for the 48 armchair.
All models have a seasoned beech wood supporting frame with polyurethane foam padding, the springs are made from stretch fabric, and the seat and backrest cushions are in polyurethane foam and Dacron. The workmanship on the backrest cushion and seat cushion is embellished with a pair of leather-covered buttons. The ends of the assembly elements on the sides are in chrome-plated brass.
As well as the new finishes, the feet are also available in black or white open-pore varnished ash wood.
