Wettstein Hanness

“Those who want to live frugally, buy things of value.”

Born in March 1958 in Switzerland, he was one of the most innovative and influential Swiss designers in the world of design who was able to establish himself especially in Italy in the 80s and 90s when the world of design was reaching its greatest level.

During his brief career, Wettstein dealt with design, corporate design, interior design and architecture. He was passionate about issues linked to technology, art and architecture and always sought to discover something new, a philosophy that characterized all his design processes.

The first furnishing element he designed that came into being was the “Juliette” chair designed in 1987 for Baleri Italia, followed by several collaborations with companies of the caliber of Cassina, Molteni, Artemide, Desalto, Oluce, and Wittmann.

He received several awards and acknowledgements such as the Compasso d’Oro award in 2004 for designing the Nomis kitchen for Dada. His pure and functional design got to the essence of things, characterized by elegant, classic and modern forms simultaneously. In fact, he created objects that have gone down in history rather than being subject to trends, with their own identity and therefore do not suffer the passage of time.
