The Omote Haki Runner, designed by Mae Engelgeer for cc-tapis, reinterprets the essential structure of the traditional Japanese tatami mat through a contemporary textile language focused on balance, texture, and material research. Developed in collaboration with cc-tapis artisans, the runner reflects a refined approach to minimalism and craftsmanship.
Created using a meticulous handloom weaving technique, the design features natural yarns wrapped around a soft and insulating felt core, reproducing the characteristic suppleness and comfort of tatami flooring. The yarns are dyed in Mae Engelgeer’s signature colour palette, offering subtle tonal variations that enhance the architectural and rhythmic appearance of the surface.
Blending traditional inspiration with modern design sensibility, the Omote Haki Runner is ideal for hallways, corridors, and transitional spaces, where it introduces warmth, softness, and understated contemporary elegance.
