Omote Haru Runner

The Omote Haru Runner, designed by Mae Engelgeer for cc-tapis, explores the minimalistic structure and tactile qualities of the traditional Japanese tatami mat through a contemporary textile interpretation. Developed in close collaboration with cc-tapis artisans, the design reimagines the harmony and balance of tatami surfaces using modern weaving techniques.

Crafted through an intricate handloom process, the runner features natural yarns woven around a soft and insulating felt core. This construction recreates the distinctive suppleness, warmth, and comfort traditionally associated with tatami flooring while introducing a refined, modern aesthetic. The yarns are dyed in Mae Engelgeer’s signature tonal shades, creating subtle chromatic variations and a calm, architectural visual rhythm.

Balancing craftsmanship, material research, and minimalist design, the Omote Haru Runner is particularly suited for hallways, corridors, and transitional spaces, where it adds texture, softness, and understated sophistication to contemporary interiors.
